Outreach

Throughout his career, Dr. Sise has been deeply committed to community outreach, public health, and injury prevention in San Diego and beyond — spanning violence prevention, substance abuse reduction, and policy development at local and national levels.

Dr. Sise and his wife Beth — a nurse, attorney, and former Director of Injury Prevention and Trauma Research Programs at Scripps Mercy Hospital — have received numerous awards for their joint efforts in the prevention of violence, injury, and substance abuse. Their work has made a measurable impact on public safety in the San Diego community.

As Chairman of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma Prevention Subcommittee, Dr. Sise contributed to national policy on trauma prevention. He has engaged in local policy initiatives addressing firearm injuries, substance abuse, and motor vehicle trauma, and participated in media interviews and public forums on these topics.

Dr. Sise's 20-year career as a Naval Medical Officer — including service as chief surgeon aboard seven naval vessels and during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm — informs his ongoing commitment to the care and advocacy of military personnel and veterans.
