Dr. Sise has dedicated a career to teaching and training the next generation of surgeons, with particular emphasis on trauma, vascular surgery, and acute care surgery. His educational roles span academic medicine, military training, and residency program leadership.

Dr. Sise served as Clinical Professor of Surgery at the UCSD School of Medicine and is the senior teaching faculty member of the General Surgery Residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. He continues to train military surgeons for combat casualty care as a faculty member of the Departments of Surgery and Emergency Medicine Residencies at Naval Medical Center San Diego.

The Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Team at Scripps Mercy Hospital trains over 80 Navy residents and physician assistants annually through one- to three-month clinical rotations. Dr. Sise has been an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Instructor since 1982 and lectures frequently on trauma, acute care surgery, vascular surgery, and quality improvement at numerous regional and national medical symposia. He has delivered over 315 scientific presentations at regional and national conferences.

Dr. Sise is board certified in general surgery, vascular surgery, and surgical critical care, and continues to practice, teach residents, and participate in clinical research in each of these specialties.
